In light of the increased need created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Comfort Zone Camp is finding new ways to help grieving children. Held year-round across the country, our primary locations are California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia (HQ). Children, teens and young adults grieve differently from adults, lacking the vocabulary to share their feelings. The need to express grief exists, just not the words. PlayWell Child Life Services provides sessions that are developmentally and behaviorally based, affording appropriate terminology and methods for each child, teen or young adult, ages 2-24 years. Wherever the need is, either on-site: in homes, schools, parks, hospitals, care facilities, churches, mortuaries, or by personal devices, psychosocial care, medical teaching and bereavement support is available. Children may be of adult patients, patients or siblings who are experiencing a new diagnosis, medical procedure, palliative care, hospice, end of life or bereavement. Developmentally appropriate expressive and coping techniques provide opportunities to explore questions, share feelings and 'play' through possible solutions. The language of play with an impartial person free's the child from the responsibility of not adding to their loved one's grief and pain.
