Comfort Zone Camp*
(804) 377-3430
Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit 501(c)3 bereavement organization that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Our programs are free of charge and include trust building activities and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Comfort Zone’s programs are offered to children ages 7-17, and their families for the family programs, plus we offer young adult programs for 18-25 year old's. In light of the increased need created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Comfort Zone Camp is finding new ways to help grieving children. Through the new Comfort Zone At Home program, campers are able to connect virtually and still have a powerful camp experience from the comfort of their home. Held year-round across the country, our primary locations are California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia (HQ). We also partner with organizations to serve their local or specific communities through our Partnership and Community by Design Programs.

Team Velvet Inc. provides clinical horse therapy for children of traumatic loss and bereavement at no fee to the family. All services are provided by a licensed
psychologist working with a therapy horse, child, parent and often a peer helper. We are a 501 c-3 and all services are funded by grants and donations as the
organization is all volunteer. No one is paid, including the psychologist. There are three amazing therapy horses who work with children in a treatment plan
designed by the psychologist and therapy usually lasts a year. The adult who brings the child to treatment needs to have legal custody and there are some
rule-outs in this type of animal-assisted therapy. After an assessment is conducted by the psychologist, a treatment plan is designed and the program
starts. All services are provided at the outpatient horse therapy farm in Flemington, New Jersey. For more information refer to the website at or call Dr. Susan Edwards, Psychologist/Director, at 609 924 4330 or 609 216 1910. We also make books for children of loss and
current have a coloring book about the death of a father called Santa Claus Visits Heaven. The book is available to the general public or other
nonprofits for a donation of $25 and can be mailed. We are in the process of developing other materials as well including a coloring book for
children with physical losses and a video on child mental health told by the therapy horses themselves. There are videos on our website narrated
by the therapy horses and an Outcomes section illustrating our work.
