Andy McNiel to depart NAGC in summer 2017, Organization to Conduct National Search for New Chief Executive Officer


Stuart, FL, April 12, 2017 – After over five years leading the National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC), Andy McNiel will be departing from the Chief Executive Officer role at the end of July, 2017. Andy will continue to lead NAGC during the transition, and work with the Board of Directors and a Transition Committee over the next several months to transition the organization and plan for onboarding of the new CEO. 

The NAGC Founders and Board of Directors were proud to welcome Andy as its inaugural chief executive officer in October 2011. Since that time, the NAGC has seen substantial growth in our programs, membership, and funding sources. NAGC has established standards of practice for the field of childhood grief and bereavement and elevated educational offerings through online education, webcasts, and the annual symposium. And like any successful organization with dynamic leadership, the NAGC has growth and change underway.

Together, as an alliance, the NAGC has everything it needs – the wisdom, creativity, bandwidth – to realize its mission to provide education and resources to those who care for bereaved children and to raise awareness of the needs of bereaved children and their families," said Andy McNiel.

Throughout the transition, Andy, along with the NAGC staff, board, and new chief executive officer, will work closely to ensure that NAGC’s momentum and impact continues to move forward. The NAGC will continue to provide education and resources for its affiliates and other stakeholders, proactively advocate for grieving children, and plan for an amazing 2017 symposium – an important annual opportunity for members of the field to make meaningful connections. The NAGC has a strong strategic plan that will continue to be the vision for our steps ahead.

Utilizing the help of interSector Partners, L3C to help conduct the executive search and transition activities, NAGC will conduct a strategic and thorough national search for a candidate who will ensure that the NAGC stays true to its mission and is poised to meet the changing needs of the field and our affiliates. During this process, the Board of Directors and interSector will be reaching out to leaders in the field and key stakeholders to ensure the search process takes into account the different perspectives represented in the alliance. The Board encourages members of the alliance and others committed to the field to connect with the NAGC Board and especially the Transition Committee, so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to give input into the future of the NAGC.
