Children's Grief Awareness Day

Children's Grief Awareness DayNovember 17, 2011 is this year's Children's Grief Awareness Day.  Held on Thursday one week before Thanksgiving, we encourage everyone to wear blue and raise awareness about child and teen bereavement.

How You Can Help

  • Wear blue on Thursday, November 17, 2011.  Take a picture.  Learn more.
  • Learn more about HOPE the butterfly, flying around the world raising awareness.  Take a picture with HOPE and share it.  Watch a video of the places HOPE has been.
  • Find a local bereavement program in your area under "find support" on our website.
  • Share resources with the community.

About Children's Grief Awareness Day 
  • Observed every year on the Thursday before Thanksgiving (in 2011, Thursday, Nov. 17).
  • First observance  took place in 2008, organized by the Highmark Caring Place, a member of the National Alliance for Grieving Children.
  • Children's Grief Awareness Day provides an opportunity to focus on the painful impact of childhood grief and to recognize and support millions of grieving children.
